Crime of the week 8-8-22
The Decatur Police Department needs your help in solving this week’s crime of the week.
On July 31st, 2022 at approximately 2:00A.M. Decatur police responded to 2882 N Dineen in reference to a shooting.
Upon arrival, officers located a deceased 14-year-old juvenile with an apparent gunshot wound. Three additional gunshot victims were transported to Decatur Memorial Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Numerous shell casings were recovered, and several individuals have been interviewed reference this incident.
The Decatur Police believe there are several more witnesses who observed or have information regarding this homicide. The Police Department is asking these witnesses to come forward. Crime stoppers will pay a cash reward of up to $2,500 if the information you provide leads to an arrest for this crime.

NEWS RELEASE 9-14-2011
The Decatur Police Department needs your help in solving this week’s crime of the week.
On September 9th officers were detailed to the Dollar General Store, located at 3797 East Rt. 36 in reference to a robbery. Upon arrival officers spoke with store employees who advised at approx. 8:30pm an unknown male subject entered the business. He walked to the checkout counter area, picked up a candy bar and then handed the cashier money to pay for the candy bar. When the store employee opened the register to get the suspect his change, he quickly lunged over the counter and tried to remove the cash drawer. The store employee tried to stop the suspect but was unsuccessful. The suspect fled the business in an unknown direction with the cash drawer. We need your help in solving this crime.
The suspect was described as a b/m in his late 20’s to early 30’s. He was approx. 5ft 3inches tall and weighed 115 pounds. He was wearing a red sweatshirt, dark colored pants and a red & blue baseball hat.

NEWS RELEASE 8-11-2011
The Decatur Police Department needs your help in solving this week’s crime of the week.
On August 4th at approx. 11:20pm Caleb Witty and his sister were walking home when they reached the 2200 hundred block of E. Johns St. They were approached from behind by 2 unknown b/m’s. One of the b/m suspects displayed a handgun and demanded money from Caleb and his sister. Caleb stated that they did not have any money so the b/m struck Caleb in the head. Caleb’s sister ran for help and heard several gunshots as she fled the area. Caleb was fatally wounded and found in the 2200 block of E. Johns Street. We need your help in solving this crime.
The 1st suspect was described as b/m, approx. 6ft tall and weighed 150lbs. He was wearing a black shirt, jeans and possibly had a gap in his front teeth. The 2nd suspect was described as a b/m approx. 6ft tall weighing 200 lbs. He was wearing jeans and a black shirt.

NEWS RELEASE 8-3-2011
The Decatur Police Department needs your help in solving this week’s crime of the week.
On July 31st officers were detailed to Jimmy Johns, located at 2950 N. Water Street in reference to an armed robbery. Upon arrival officers spoke with store employees that advised at approx. 10:00pm 2 b/m’s entered the business wearing facial coverings. Both b/m’s advised the store employees that they had guns and would shoot them if they didn’t cooperate. The store employees were forced to open the cash registers and business safe. The suspects removed the money and then fled the business, running eastbound towards Martin Luther King Jr. Drive. We need your help in solving this crime.
The 1st suspect was described as a b/m, approx. 6ft tall with an athletic build. He was wearing a blue hooded sweatshirt with a black mask. The 2nd suspect was described as a b/m approx. 6ft tall with a heavy build. He was wearing a white shirt, black shorts and had a blue shirt covering his face.
