Crime of the Week 08/21/2026

The Decatur Police Department is requesting the public’s assistance in solving this week’s Crime of the Week.

Detectives are investigating a series of burglaries at Alltown Bus Service, located at 1610 North Brant Court. Beginning around August 15th, approximately 30 buses were reportedly burglarized.

Security video shows approximately four juveniles entering the property during the late overnight hours by climbing the fence and gate. The suspects were then seen prying open the doors of the buses. Several personal items were stolen, including a wallet, a violin, and other small belongings. Damage was also reported to the dashboard of one bus.

Crime of the Week 08/12/2026

The Decatur Police Department is requesting the public’s assistance in solving this week’s Crime of the Week.

Detectives are currently investigating a shots-fired incident that occurred at approximately 2:54 p.m. at 1760 S. Fairview Ave. Officers responded to the area after receiving a report of shots fired. Upon arrival, officers determined there was no victim or property damage. Approximately six spent shell casings were located in the apartment parking lot.

Surveillance video was obtained showing a white sedan entering and leaving the area within a short period of time around the time of the incident. Detectives are continuing to investigate, and no suspect information is currently available.

Crime of the Week 07/15/2026

The Decatur Police Department is requesting the public’s assistance in solving this week’s Crime of the Week.

Detectives are currently investigating a theft that occurred during the early morning hours of June 29, 2026, at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church. Several large copper downspouts were removed from the exterior of the building overnight.

This incident is one of several similar copper thefts reported in the area. Surveillance video shows a possible suspect described as a white male wearing dark clothing and riding a bicycle. Photos of the possible suspect are available on the Crime Stoppers website. Detectives are continuing to follow leads.

Crime of the Week 07/01/2026

The Decatur Police Department is requesting the public’s assistance in solving this week’s Crime of the Week.

Detectives are currently investigating a burglary that occurred during the early morning hours of June 29, 2026, at the CVS located at 570 North Fairview Avenue.

Responding officers discovered two shattered glass door panes. Investigators believe a brick was used to break the glass, allowing the suspect to gain entry into the business.

Surveillance footage captured an individual of unknown race wearing a black hooded sweatshirt, black face mask, black shoes, and white gloves while carrying a black pillowcase or bag. After entering the business, the suspect walked to the cash register before leaving a short time later. The suspect was last seen walking southbound along the west side of the business.
