Crime of the Week 6/23/25

The Decatur Police Department needs your help in solving this week’s crime of the week.

During the early morning hours of June 17th, officers responded to a reported burglary at a convenience store located at 1101 N IL Route 48. Upon arrival, officers discovered the front window adjacent to the main entrance had been removed. No individuals were located inside the premises.

Surveillance footage captured two suspects approaching the store from the southwest. One suspect used a large rock to break the window near the front door, allowing both individuals to enter the business. The suspects stole approximately $140 worth of merchandise before fleeing northwest on foot.

Suspect Descriptions:

  • Suspect #1: Described as a Black male wearing a dark blue jacket with a white/gray hood, black “Puma” sweatpants featuring a white ring around the left pant leg, and grey/white Jordan Retro 6 sneakers. He was also carrying a blue backpack and wore a light-colored face mask and gloves.
  • Suspect #2: Described as a Black male wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt, black pants, and black boots. This individual carried a white plastic bag and also wore a light-colored face mask and gloves.

Past Crimes of the Week

Crime of the Week 4/21/25

The Decatur Police Department is seeking the public’s assistance in solving this week’s Crime of the Week.

On April 13, 2025, officers responded to a report of a shooting in the 1300 block of North Gulick Avenue. Upon arrival, officers located numerous shell casings at the intersection of North Gulick and West Center Street, as well as a vehicle that had been struck by gunfire near the scene.

During the investigation, officers spoke with several residents in the area and obtained descriptions of two suspects:

  • Suspect 1: Described as a dark-skinned Black male, approximately 16 years old, between 5’6” and 5’7” tall with a thin build. He was last seen wearing thin glasses and a black hooded sweatshirt.
  • Suspect 2: Described as a light-skinned Black male, also approximately 16 years old, between 5’8” and 5’9” tall with a thin build. He was reportedly wearing a dark ski mask and dark-colored clothing.

Prior to the incident, both suspects were observed walking with two light-skinned Black females, also believed to be around 16 years of age.

Crime of the Week 3-31-25

The Decatur Police Department needs your help in solving this week’s crime of the week.

On March 24th, at approximately 9:00 A.M., a victim briefly parked their red Jeep Cherokee in the 700 block of W. Macon. As the victim stepped away from the vehicle, an unidentified male suspect approached the unattended car. The suspect entered the driver’s seat of the Jeep and drove away westbound from the scene.

Surveillance footage shows the suspect as a Black male, wearing a gray or dark-colored jacket over a bright yellow shirt (resembling a safety vest) and dark pants. The suspect is of average height and build, with short dark hair.

Crime of the Week 3-17-25

The Decatur Police Department needs your help in solving this week’s crime of the week.

In the early hours of February 25th, an unknown suspect or suspects unlawfully entered an unattached garage in the 1000 block of N. 33rd Street. The perpetrators removed several items from the garage, including a zero-turn lawn mower.

Area residents reported seeing an individual wearing a mask, operating the stolen mower, and driving southbound from the scene.

The stolen mower is described as a bright orange and black “Bad Boy” 54-inch deck zero-turn model, featuring “747 CC” on the side of the engine and the “Bad Boy” logo etched into the black steel on the rear of the mower. A photo similar to the stolen mower is below
