Crime of the Week 12/17/2025
The Decatur Police Department is asking for the public’s assistance in solving this week’s Crime of the Week.
On December 11, 2025, at approximately 6:30 p.m., Decatur Police Officers were dispatched to the intersection of East Hickory Street and North Lowber Street in reference to a shots-fired call. Upon arrival, officers located one live round and sixteen spent shell casings in the 1400 block of North Lowber Street.
Surveillance footage from the area shows a white Toyota Camry traveling southbound on North Lowber Street. The vehicle stopped briefly, at which time automatic gunfire can be heard. The vehicle then continued southbound on North Lowber Street before turning eastbound onto Grand Avenue.

This incident remains an active and ongoing investigation. Anyone with information related to this crime is encouraged to contact Crime Stoppers at 217-423-TIPS (8477). Tips can be provided anonymously, and Crime Stoppers will pay for information that leads to an arrest.

Crime of the Week 5-12-25
The Decatur Police Department needs your help in solving this week’s crime of the week.
On May 5th at approximately 9:25 p.m., officers responded to a reported structure fire to a vacant residence in the 600 block of East Wood Street. Both police and fire personnel arrived on the scene and confirmed that no individuals were located in or around the residence.
Surveillance footage obtained from a neighboring property depicts a suspect exiting the vacant home just prior to the start of the fire. The suspect is described as a thin-build white male, wearing a black hat, blue jacket, black pants, and black shoes. The individual was also seen carrying an orange backpack.

Crime of the Week 4/21/25
The Decatur Police Department is seeking the public’s assistance in solving this week’s Crime of the Week.
On April 13, 2025, officers responded to a report of a shooting in the 1300 block of North Gulick Avenue. Upon arrival, officers located numerous shell casings at the intersection of North Gulick and West Center Street, as well as a vehicle that had been struck by gunfire near the scene.
During the investigation, officers spoke with several residents in the area and obtained descriptions of two suspects:
- Suspect 1: Described as a dark-skinned Black male, approximately 16 years old, between 5’6” and 5’7” tall with a thin build. He was last seen wearing thin glasses and a black hooded sweatshirt.
- Suspect 2: Described as a light-skinned Black male, also approximately 16 years old, between 5’8” and 5’9” tall with a thin build. He was reportedly wearing a dark ski mask and dark-colored clothing.
Prior to the incident, both suspects were observed walking with two light-skinned Black females, also believed to be around 16 years of age.

Crime of the Week 3-31-25
The Decatur Police Department needs your help in solving this week’s crime of the week.
On March 24th, at approximately 9:00 A.M., a victim briefly parked their red Jeep Cherokee in the 700 block of W. Macon. As the victim stepped away from the vehicle, an unidentified male suspect approached the unattended car. The suspect entered the driver’s seat of the Jeep and drove away westbound from the scene.
Surveillance footage shows the suspect as a Black male, wearing a gray or dark-colored jacket over a bright yellow shirt (resembling a safety vest) and dark pants. The suspect is of average height and build, with short dark hair.
