Crime of the Week 4/21/25

The Decatur Police Department is seeking the public’s assistance in solving this week’s Crime of the Week.

On April 13, 2025, officers responded to a report of a shooting in the 1300 block of North Gulick Avenue. Upon arrival, officers located numerous shell casings at the intersection of North Gulick and West Center Street, as well as a vehicle that had been struck by gunfire near the scene.

During the investigation, officers spoke with several residents in the area and obtained descriptions of two suspects:

Suspect 1: Described as a dark-skinned Black male, approximately 16 years old, between 5’6” and 5’7” tall with a thin build. He was last seen wearing thin glasses and a black hooded sweatshirt.
Suspect 2: Described as a light-skinned Black male, also approximately 16 years old, between 5’8” and 5’9” tall with a thin build. He was reportedly wearing a dark ski mask and dark-colored clothing.

Prior to the incident, both suspects were observed walking with two light-skinned Black females, also believed to be around 16 years of age.

Crime of the Week 9-16-24

The Decatur Police Department needs your help in solving this week’s crime of the week.

During the overnight hours between Friday, September 6th and Saturday, September 7th several individuals vandalized the area surrounding the 9/11 Memorial and the Beach House boardwalk in Nelson Park.

Surveillance captured three w/m’s damaging items around the Memorial. Two of the w/m’s appear to have longer hair. These two were observed wearing dark colored shirts with writing on the front and pajama pants. The third w/m suspect was observed wearing a hat, and gray colored clothing.

Crime of the Week 9-9-24

The Decatur Police Department needs your help in solving this week’s crime of the week.

On August 30^th 2024, at approximately 4:14 A.M. a subject was observed walking by the front of the Decatur Civic Center. This individual was observed placing a bronze colored plastered head of Abraham Lincoln on the ground in front of the entrance. It is unknown at this time where the damaged statue came from.

The suspect involved in this incident is a w/m with a beard, average height, thin build, wearing no shirt and dark pants.

Crime of the week 8-5-24

The Decatur Police Department needs your help in solving this week’s crime of the week.

On July 30^th, 2024 Decatur Police responded to Dollar General located at 969 E Eldorado in reference to a burglary. Police arrived on scene and observed forced entry to the sliding glass doors. No suspects were located inside.

Security cameras were observed which captured three individuals standing outside on this date in the early morning hours. One individual forces entry to the business while the other two stood as lookouts. Two of the suspects were observed entering the business and removing cash registers.

The first suspect was observed to be a white male or female, wearing a black hooded sweatshirt, with the hood up, white shorts and black tennis shoes with three white stripes.

The second suspect was observed wearing a black hooded sweatshirt, with the hood pulled up, black jeans with rips in them and white tennis shoes.
