Crime of the Week 07/14/2025

The Decatur Police Department is asking for your help in solving this week’s Crime of the Week.

On June 13, 2025, at approximately 3:30PM, officers took a report of a theft in the 100 block of N Dennis.

The victim stated a b/m rummaged through several packages on their front porch.  The suspect took a pair of earrings from the packages before leaving the area.  Surveillance footage at the residence shows the suspect — described as a Black male, medium complexion, wearing a black vest, black pants with a white belt and wearing a black face covering.

Past Crimes of the Week

Crime of the week 7-11-22

The Decatur Police Department needs your help in solving this week’s crime of the week.

On July 5th at approximately 8:30 P.M.  a shooting occurred in the 3600 block of N Taylor.

Officers arrived on scene and observed evidence of this shooting.  Numerous shell casings were recovered, and a couple of nearby residences had damage from gunfire. 

A witness observed a b/m wearing a dark hooded sweatshirt with his hood up quickly walking N/B on Taylor right after the shots were fired.

Burglary to Motor Vehicles

Over the past several weeks there have been numerous burglaries to vehicles at various addresses in Decatur, IL and Forsyth, IL.  Surveillance cameras in the area show the suspects appear to be the same individual(s) wearing different clothing.  If you recognize anyone from the attached photos or their vehicles, please call crime stoppers at 217-423-TIPS (8477).

Crime of the Week 5-31-22

The Decatur Police Department needs your help in solving this week’s crime of the week.

On May 24th, at approximately 1:50 A.M. Decatur Police responded to the 1200 block of N Dennis in reference to a shooting.  Officers arrived on scene and observed an individual with gunshot wounds. 

The investigation revealed the victim was asleep on his bed when numerous guns shots were fired into the residence with one round striking the victim in the abdomen and another round which struck him in the back.  The victim would survive and had no suspect information.

A witness observed two subjects dressed in all black running N/B in the 1700 block of W Grand after the shooting.  The subjects were both approximately 5’9” tall and 150lbs.
