Crime of the Week 12/17/2025

The Decatur Police Department is asking for the public’s assistance in solving this week’s Crime of the Week.

On December 11, 2025, at approximately 6:30 p.m., Decatur Police Officers were dispatched to the intersection of East Hickory Street and North Lowber Street in reference to a shots-fired call. Upon arrival, officers located one live round and sixteen spent shell casings in the 1400 block of North Lowber Street.

Surveillance footage from the area shows a white Toyota Camry traveling southbound on North Lowber Street. The vehicle stopped briefly, at which time automatic gunfire can be heard. The vehicle then continued southbound on North Lowber Street before turning eastbound onto Grand Avenue.

This incident remains an active and ongoing investigation. Anyone with information related to this crime is encouraged to contact Crime Stoppers at 217-423-TIPS (8477). Tips can be provided anonymously, and Crime Stoppers will pay for information that leads to an arrest.

Crime of the Week 6-3-24

The Decatur Police Department needs your help in solving this week’s crime of the week.

In the early morning hours on May 28^th, 2024, Decatur Police were made aware of several burglary to motor vehicles that occurred to the businesses of KB Custom Tint and Mcelroy Auto Repair. These businesses share the same parking lot and are located at 2235 W Mound Rd.

Several vehicles on this lot were rummaged through with stereo equipment removed and steering wheel columns damaged.

Surveillance footage showed a White Hummer H2 on the lot during the time frame of the burglaries. A picture of the suspect vehicle can be observed below.

Crime of the Week 5-13-24

The Decatur Police Department needs your help in solving this week’s crime of the week.

On May 6^th, 2024 Decatur Police responded to Main Street Church located at 2000 N Main in reference to a theft of copper piping from several Air Conditioning units.

The damage caused by the theft will cost the church over $60,000 to fix.

Witnesses were spoken to who observed a black colored Dodge truck with tinted windows parked near the A/C units a couple days prior to the theft. The suspect driving this truck was either a White or Hispanic male with a clean-shaven beard.

Crime of the Week 4-22-24

The Decatur Police Department needs your help in solving this week’s crime of the week.

In the early morning hours of March 29^th, 2024 Decatur Park District Police were notified that an artifact from the 9/11 attack on the World Trade Center was missing from the Memorial at Lake Decatur. The artifact was described as a portion of a metal filing cabinet donated from the site of “Ground Zero.”

An investigation ensued, which included review of surveillance imagery from the area. It was determined the artifact appeared to have been removed from the Memorial on the evening of February 15^th, 2024. Surveillance footage showed four suspects who appear to be in their teens, dressed in hooded shirts, around the Memorial site on this date. (photos below)
